A new film currently in production, I CARRY YOUR HEART IN MY HEART: Transforming Art Students and Patients through Visual Art in Medicine, documents the transformation of current and former interns involved with the program. Since 2012, filmmaker Krista Lee Weller has been recording the varied and unexpected paths taken when art students realize how their talents can positively affect the community.
Art with a Heart in Healthcare co-founder and program director Lori Guadagno collaborates with co-producers Weller and Freshman Brown to depict how art empowers the interns, the children and their families. The program also affects students’ personal imagery as visual artists. For over a decade this experience, guided by Freshman Brown and Guadagno, sets the stage for interns to continue to utilize their creativity in varied careers in the arts and in medicine. Former interns are art educators and have pursued graduate degrees in Art Therapy, Medical Illustration, Arts in Medicine, M.F.A.’s in Painting, Drawing and Printmaking and Art with a Heart has retained several interns as employees.
